    • 16 MB RAM

    • Up to 19 MB of available hard-disk space (Microsoft Reader is approximately 4 MB but additional space is required for installation)

    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 with Service Pack 1 or higher
  • Video:
    • VGA or higher resolution monitor and video card capable of displaying 16 bit color
  • Other:
    • Microsoft mouse or compatible pointing device

Download and Installation Instructions for PCs/ Tablet PCs/ Laptops

  1. Click here to go to the Microsoft Reader download page.
  2. Select the appropriate version of Reader for your machine.
  3. Select the appropriate version of Reader for your language and country.
  4. Select the appropriate download for your operating system.
  5. A 'File Download box' is displayed. Select option 'Save this program to disk' to save the msreadersetup.exe file on your machine.
  6. When the download is complete, locate the msreadersetup.exe file on your machine, and double-click to begin installation.
    Note that if you are using IE 5.0 or higher, a dialog box may be displayed when the download is complete. Click the 'Open' button to begin the installation.
  7. When the installation is complete, go to your desktop and double-click the Microsoft Reader icon to open the Reader.
  8. You will be prompted to 'activate' your Reader. Click the 'Activate Now' button to go the Microsoft Reader activation page.
  9. The next step you take depends on whether you have a Microsoft Passport account (required for activation). Do one of the following:
    • If you have a passport account, you can use it to activate your Reader. At the 'Have a Passport?' prompt, click 'YES' to sign in using your existing account. At the next page, enter your account information, then click 'Sign In' to begin activation. -or-
    • If you do not have a passport account, you need to create one before activating your Reader. At the 'Have a Passport?' prompt, click 'NO'. At the next screen, complete and submit the brief registration form. When you submit the form, you the activation screen will be displayed again. At the 'Have a Passport?' prompt, click 'YES' to sign in using your new account. At the next page, enter your account information, then click 'Sign In' to begin activation. When activation is complete, the browser displays the message: 'Activation components have been successfully downloaded to your computer and are being installed.'

Download and Installation Instructions for Pocket PCs

  1. Click here to go to the Microsoft Reader download page.
  2. Select the appropriate version of Reader for your language and country.
  3. Create a live ActiveSync connection with the device, and ensure that synchronization is working properly.
  4. Click the download link.
  5. A 'File Download box' is displayed. Select option 'Save this program to disk' to save the msreadersetup.exe file on your machine.
  6. When the download is complete, locate the msreadersetup.exe file on your machine, and double-click to begin installation.
    Note that if you are using IE 5.0 or higher, a dialog box may be displayed when the download is complete. Click the 'Open' button to begin the installation.
  7. When the installation is complete, double-click the Microsoft Reader icon to open the Reader.
  8. You will be prompted to 'activate' your Reader. Click the 'Activate Now' button to go the Microsoft Reader activation page.
